HAYES BARTON MENU

For this project, I redesigned the menu for Hayes Barton Cafe and Dessertery, a restaurant in Raleigh, North Carolina. Because of my personal connection to the restaurant, I wanted the redesign to feel true to Hayes Barton while also reflecting some of its history.

I started by researching the history of the Hayes Barton Pharmacy, which inspired me to look into vintage soda fountains, pharmacy grills, and diner menus. I found that many classic diner menus were organized into clear sections for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert, with occasional illustrations or images used as visual references. I also looked at the different color palettes used in retro menus, ranging from bright, vibrant colors to more muted and nostalgic tones. I used these references to create a menu that feels connected to the restaurant's history while still having its own visual identity.
